To celebrate Halloween this year, I did a podcast episode about so-called Frankenfood – genetically enhanced crops. Specifically I focused on the GABA tomato, which has been nutritionally enhanced using CRISPRcas9 gene editing. Regulators in both the U.S. and Japan have chosen to not classify it as a GMO food.
Why the GABA Tomato is NOT Frankenfood –
Dr. Mahaletchumy Arujanan of the ISAAA.org International Service for The Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications, offers a clear and concise explanation as to why this gene editing science can offer the global population a potential golden ticket out of food insecurity and away from the threat of climate change threatened crops.
ISAAA is a not-for-profit international organization that shares the benefits of new bioscience technologies to key stakeholders, particularly resource-poor farmers in developing countries, through knowledge sharing, support to capacity building initiatives, and partnerships.
