Every season has its culinary delights and traditions.
The Disgusting Food Museum will surely show you a few you might never have tried, let alone even heard of!
And a dish that may be disgusting to you – Casu marzu – maggot-infested cheese from Sardinia; Hákarl – well-aged shark from Iceland; Surströmming – fermented herring from Sweden; Stinky tofu – pungent bean curd from China; brain omelet from Mexico – may be a delight to others.
So if food is your language, calendar a bit of culinary culture this holiday season (or any season!) and stop in at this new museum. Its locations are in both Sweden (Malmo) and Los Angeles (but, of course!). Here you can get a mouthful of sights of culinary bites revered by our human brethren the world over.
October 29 – January 27
Slaghuset, Carlsgatan 12
Slagthuset (the slaughterhouse) is only a three-minute walk from Malmö central station, and there is plentiful parking in the area. We are just across the bridge from Copenhagen, and yes, Danes are also welcome. There is a very good restaurant (no, it is not disgusting!) in the same building.
Dec 9 – Feb 17
A+D Architecture and Design Museum
900 E. 4th Street
Los Angeles, CA 90013
There is a small parking lot next to A+D that is first come, first serve. Street parking is available on the surrounding blocks. We recommend taking Ride Share. There are plenty of (not disgusting) restaurants, cafes, and even a brewery in the area. Make a day out of it!
